Toronto-based Barrick Gold has named Alistair Baker VP corporate development on an interim basis to replace senior VP corporate development Darren Blasutti who is leaving the company on Jan. 7, 2011, to pursue other opportunities.
Stephen Quin is stepping down from the presidency of Vancouver’s Capstone Mining at the end of the year and will continue to sit on the board of directors.
Dave Anthony is the new VP and senior project director of Canadian chromite operations for Cliffs Natural Resources of Cleveland, OH. He will lead the team bringing the company’s chromite deposits in Ontario’s Ring of Fire into production.
Donner Metals of Vancouver has named Ron Tessier its new VP engineering. He has over 40 years experience in the industry, notably in the Matagami area of Quebec where the company is a joint venture partner with Xstrata Zinc in bringing the Bracemac-McLeod zinc-copper deposit into production by the end of 2012.
Vancouver-based Kaminak Gold Corp. has promoted Tim Smith to VP exploration. He has spent the past year working on the company’s flagship Coffee gold project in the Yukon. He is a graduate of the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.
NovaGold Resources of Vancouver has named Ron Rimelman to the position of VP environment, health, safety and sustainability. He has consulted with the company since mid-2009 on the Donlin Creek and Galore Creek gold projects in Alaska and British Columbia, respectively.
George Pirie has been named president and CEO of Bissett, MB’s, San Gold Corp. Former CEO Dale Ginn has assumed the role of executive vice-chairman. Pirie is the former president and CEO of Placer Dome Canada. He has also held leading positions at Breakwater Resources, Northern Star Mining and on the boards of the Mining Association of Canada, the Ontario Mining Association, the Ontario Mineral Industry Cluster Council and Mirarco. He is also on the boards of Auryx Gold and Lithium Americas Corp.
