MADAGASCAR - SNC-LAVALIN employees have worked 1.0-million person-hours without a lost time accident at the Ambatovy nickel project. The milestone was reached in August 2007. In its press release, SNC-Lavalin praised the efforts of the owners and operations groups, the project management team, construction manager Nick Mills, and heath and safety manager Max Wahlberg.
The Ambatovy project is owned by SHERRITT INTERNATIONAL of Toronto. It consists of an open pit mine, processing plant, 220-km slurry pipeline, a port, an 8.0-km railway, 130 km of access roads and various infrastructure projects. The project carries an estimated price tag of US$3.2 billion.
