CAJAMARCA, Peru The world's largest open pit heap leaching gold mine, the NEWMONT-operated Yanococha mine, has ordered an InLine reactor from Australia's GEKKO SYSTEMS. The ILR will recover gold from the slag remaining after processing, and its use will boost recovery to over 95%.

The Yanacocha mine is located 4,700 m above sea level. It relies on Merrill-Crowe technology to recover gold from solution. Up to 3 t of slag are produced each day, and within the slag is an estimated 10 kg of recoverable gold. The ILR will eliminate the sorting table and the security issues that go with manual handling.

The Gekko ILR is simple to operate and an energy-miser. It is available in either a continuous or batch application. Depending on the application, it can handle up to 7,000 kg/hr.

Gekko has a Canadian office at 909 Burrard St., Suite 906, Vancouver, B.C. V6Z 2N2; phone 604-681-2288; fax 604-681-2220; or visit Gekko Systems.
