ROMANIA - Gabriel Resources of Toronto has been granted an archaeological discharge certificate for the Carnic open pit at its long-delayed Rosia Montana gold project.

There have been mines in this part of Romania since Roman times, and Gabriel has been hoping to advance the project for over 10 years. Gabriel's plans to remediate much of the historic environmental problems left from old mining methods won a prestigious E3 Environmental Excellence in Exploration Award presented by the PDAC in 2007. The need to resettle part of the local residents met with resistance from environmental groups, non-governmental organizations (NGO) and the Romanian government.. The worst blow came when the government refused an environmental permit for Rosia Montana the same year the company's efforts were lauded.

Gabriel resumed work on the Rosia Montana environmental impact study in September 2010.
