Dr. Rick Valenta has joined FRONTEER DEVELOPMENT as VP exploration. He obtained his doctorate in structural geology from Monash University of Australia in 1988. Over the past decade He played a pivotal role in the Australian minerals industry by pioneering a new holistic approach to mineral exploration that integrates geophysics and structural geology. Valenta is one of a select few individuals credited with developing the science and practice of geologically meaningful interpretation of aeromagnetic data.


SULLIDEN EXPLORATION of Montreal has named Dr. Enrique Lastres as VP corporate development and legal affairs of Minera Sulliden Shahuindo S.A.C., the company's Peruvian subsidiary. Lastres has been a professor at the Catholic University of Lima since 1974 where he teaches mining and energy law.

Gerald L. Colborne, MSc, PEng, has been elected to the board of KING'S BAY GOLD CORP. in Winnipeg. He brings over 40 years of valuable experience to the appointment, including a stint as deputy minister of the Saskatchewan Dept. of Industry and Commerce and experience in banking, mining law, and consulting.

WESTERN SILVER CORP. of Vancouver has named David Williams to the company's board of directors. Williams was previously a partner at Beutel, Goodman.

Toronto-based DUMONT NICKEL has appointed David W. Constable as a technical advisor and nominated him for election to its board. A graduate of Mount Allison University and Laurentian University, he is an experienced director of junior companies listed on the TSX Venture Exchange.

Lars Josefsson has been appointed president of the SANDVIK MINING AND CONSTRUCTION business area and a member of group executive management, effective Jan. 1, 2004. He is currently president of the power generation company Alstom Sweden. Anders Ilstam, who has been appointed executive VP of Sandvik AB effective Jan. 1, 2004, will vacate the presidency for Josefsson.

ABB announced that Dinesh C. Paliwal has been appointed as economic advisor to his excellency Mr. Huang Huahua, governor of Guangdong Province, Peoples' Republic of China. Paliwal, who serves on the ABB executive committee and heads the group's worldwide automation technologies businesses, will support the provincial government on economic issues and future development. His 3-year advisory term will begin in November.

William Tanner has resigned his position as a director of SHORE GOLD in Calgary. He will serve on the company's advisory committee instead.
