She has played a vital role with the association staff for more than 20 years, previously serving and COO for 10 years. McDonald is a past president of the Canadian Association of Exposition Management (the national association for professionals involved in the production, management, and planning of trade and consumer shows, and events), and is a member of the Canadian Society of Association Executives. Barrick Gold of Toronto has announced that Michael Brown, currently president of Barrick USA, will be retiring at the end of the year. His responsibilities will be taken over by Catherine Raw, currently the company’s CFO. She will hold the newly created title of COO for North America. At the next annual meeting, NV Gold is proposing to downsize its board of directors. Quinton Hennigh, Odin Christensen, Alf Stewart, Peter Ball and John Watson will retain their seats, but Ken Booth and Paul Zyla have tendered their resignations. The Sudbury Area Mining Supply and Service Association (SAMSSA) honoured Roy Slack as the association’s 2018 Hall of Fame Inductee. He is the president of Cementation Canada. SNC-Lavalin has named Sohail Samdani the VP and GM for the company’s mining and metallurgy sector in the Middle East. Previously, he was the company’s VP for North America.
